Happiness: the joy we feel moving toward our potential.

Hi! My name is Nate, thanks for stopping by. You might be wondering what you will find here. Awesome, because so am I! Truth be told, I am not sure. As I am writing this I can think of lots of messages, lessons, successes and failures that I would like to share with you in hopes that you can learn from them. Learn what to do in some cases and what not to do also. There is tremendous value in both.

Let's start with the basics, a virtual handshake of sorts. I am 31 years old, married with three boys (12, 6 and 2). I grew up in Tampa, FL and attended the University of South Florida, before it was as big and as cool as it is now. I have been working in modeling, data and analytics since I graduated; mostly self taught since they didn't really teach that when I was in school. I like hanging out with friends and family, the beach, house music, learning cool stuff and doing cool things. I have a beard (circa 2009 - I stared the trend...no, seriously!) and always have a backwards hat on. When I grow up I want to be a skateboarder, DJ and rapper (old school rap). Now we are officially friends! Continue at your own risk...

I read once that all you need is a strong start and a strong finish, you can figure out the middle as you go. I am considering this a strong start. I always loved the idea of reflecting back on past experiences and I can't think of any better way to do that than this. Maybe, you will get something from some of the posts. Maybe you can relate or maybe by reading some of them you will think 'damn, that guy is crazy' which will make you feel a little less-crazy; happy to be THAT guy. You should never write for an audience, you write for one person. Maybe that person is you. If it isn't you, maybe it is someone you know.

How about a quick review of some of the areas that I am interested in... I focus a lot of my time on personal development. Are you thinking... Only losers read or listen to self-help? Yea, that is what I thought when I was 18. But then life slaps you in the face and says 'hey, you are young and naive, life is hard; you don't know shit' (paraphrased of course). If you don't value yourself enough to want to be the best version of yourself then I don't know what to tell you. There aren't enough letters after my name to help you. I am absolutely enamored with the fact that you can improve; maybe that sounds silly but, whatever. Let's see what else... I have a real job. I am the VP of Product Development with a technology and data analytics company. We do a lot of predictive modeling, geospatial analytics, application development... you know try and predict the future. There will be some posts that are geared more towards that; technical skills or ideas, lessons learned in product development, leadership and analytics. I also love creating things; whether physical (something like furniture) or virtual (maybe websites or models). I will share some of that as well. Nothing cooler than making stuff...

I think what it comes down is that I want to get better and live the best possible life. Is that a crazy thing to want?! Happiness, freedom, self-awareness, growth.... I think it is possible. So that is what I am doing... I have found that sometimes that means I need to add things to my life and other times it means I need to remove things. I don't have it all figured out but hey, that is why you play the game, right!? Here is to getting better and growing in the directions you are interested. If you aren't down with that then go ahead and swipe left. If you are interested in what I am doing and how things are going then check out WORDS and let's get growing.

You can find me on the beach... Not as often as I would like, though...
